Choosing Colour Themes

To inspire my colour themes for my travel app, I typed a few different key words into Adobe Colour such as photography, golden hour, summer etc and I saved a few colour palettes. I then created this colour palette mood board where I added all of the saved photos onto. It wasn’t until I merged all of these together did I realise that I had liked a lot of the same colours. This meant it was quite easy to pick some which I liked, merge a few of the palettes to create one large one for my brand.

These were the colours I combined from my inspiration to create my own palette.

Creating My Icons

One of the first things to do before creating visuals of my app screens was to create an icon set for them. As I had already planned these out in my sketchbook, I had a good idea of what I wanted them to look like. I used Adobe Illustrator to create these and figured out how to use the pathfinder tool which I found very useful when combining shapes. I also found using a grid helped me to keep all the icons similar shapes and sizes. Here is the set I have come up with both in black and white.

I much prefer the white stroked version as it gives a better visual of what my icons will look like against different coloured backgrounds - for example a coloured navigation bar.

Creating My Screens

To create my screens, I chose to use Figma as this is the software I have previously used to recreate other app screens. I exported my icons from Illustrator into Figma to allow me to use them in my designs.
