To begin creating my brand, I experimented with different typefaces. For this, I chose DIN Alternate Bold, DIN Condensed Bold and Obvia. I also experimented using only capital letters for the Apollo heading and lowercase letters for the subheading but later I realised it looked better using all capitals.
Firstly, I experimented with the different DIN typefaces. I took the crossbar out of the A in APOLLO and added a similar bar into the letter O. I actually preferred it with just the second O having the crossbar as I feel like it allows the centre of the word to breathe and remain unchanged.
I then experimented with Obvia which made me realise that I loved the capitalised subheading below. Similarly, I took out the crossbar in the letter A and chose to do the same in the subheading to match them both together. I also tried the O crossbar in this font and thought it looked too harsh and thick against the rest of the heading.
Using Obvia for all text
Finally, I chose to blend these two typefaces together using DIN Alternate Bold for the heading “Apollo” and Obvia Thin for the subheading, “Space Programme.”
I added slanted edges to the ends of the L’s in Apollo, at the same angle as the A and thought this added some definition to the middle of the heading without over-doing it. I love the differentiation in weights of the fonts and think that the two different fonts pair well together.
